The Job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Legal Counsel to join our in-house legal team on a full-time basis.
Reporting into the General Manager - Legal, Risk & Compliance, this is a key multi-faceted role within the Club providing accurate and timely legal services across all departments and occasionally the wider City Football Group.
Who are we?
Melbourne City FC is part of a global football business, City Football Group (CFG). We compete in Australia's elite domestic football competition, the A-Leagues with both a men's and a women's team, state and youth leagues, the Australia Cup competition and the Asian Football Confederation competitions including Asian Champions League.
CFG currently consists of 13 football clubs, including Manchester City FC, and is one of the fastest growing sporting organisations in the world.

Key Responsibilities
- General Agreements - Drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements in relation to a broad range of commercial and operational agreements, including sponsorship, procurement, IT, digital, retail, and supplier agreements as well as providing legal support for larger ad-hoc transactional and project work.
- Football related activities - annual FA licensing program, player transfers and loans, game day arrangements including with stadiums, administration related to Asian Champions League and Australia Cup participation, player disciplinary proceedings, and City Football Schools work
- Corporate - supporting Board operations across Australian entitles - including CiTC Charity - liaising with CFG to implement group initiatives, policy related work, ASIC filings and record keeping, and coordinating with other CFG companies, where required.
- Safeguarding - supporting compliance across all safeguarding activities including game day activities, where necessary.
- Immigration - liaise with the Club's immigration service providers and internal stakeholders to coordinate efficient service and ensure compliance with visa regulations for players and staff, where required.
- Establishing effective relationships across the Club, creating associations of trust and respect with key stakeholders.
Skills, Experience & Desired Attributes
- Qualification as a Lawyer in Australia.
- 2 - 4 years' post qualification experience.
- Experience and knowledge of commercial law.
- Diligent and thorough research, planning and organisational skills
- Demonstrated technical legal drafting experience with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage a varied workload across multiple areas of the law.
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills, especially with non-legal business colleagues.
- Proactive self-starter with ability to work independently and in a team.
- Willing to develop, learn and take on feedback from experienced professionals.
- Positive and collaborative attitude.
- Proven integrity and discretion.
- Ability to build relationships and influence others.
