The News and Current Affairs digital team is a dynamic, collaborative team that supports daily online news and current affairs content creation across SBS's current affair programs.

Specifically, Insight, Dateline and The Feed, and additional creative special projects.

We work alongside Journalists, Producers and Editors in the heart of our very energetic newsroom.' ̄

The Role' ̄

An exciting full-time role to create design work for The Feed, Insight and Dateline's digital platforms.

The purpose of this role is to support the digital current affairs team in creating engaging graphics for articles and social media content, along with motion graphics for digital video including mini-docs, explainers and comedy.


  • Collaborate with Producers / Journalists to produce dynamic stories with stateoftheart graphics and eyecatching designs that will engage and inform our audiences whilst adhering to our distinctive brands.
  • Contribute fresh and inspiring ideas, with an innovative approach that will capture our audience's attention. Each day is an opportunity to assist with unique social media posts, producing contemporary animations for explainers and suggest interesting ways to illustrate data that reach our audiences and highlight interesting angles to enrich our unique stories.
  • Shift work may be required at times, though infrequently.
About you' ̄

(Please note that role is for a designer who can execute both Motion Graphics and Graphic Design)

  • Solid experience in creating complex, bold and dynamic animations,' ̄a passion for news and current affairs, as well as an ability to remain calm under pressure
  • An understanding of channel branding style guides, and the creativity to find new and flexible ways to work within these guidelines
  • An intrinsic understanding and keen enthusiasm for new design trends emerging across social platforms, and the flare to work these into our content '" desire to stand out in a crowd
  • The ability to juggle competing projects while working with autonomy and managing your work calendar to deliver on time to tight deadlines
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to build relationships across teams, effectively handover tasks to team members and train new team members, as required
  • Advanced skillset working in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly After Effects (including plugins) to deliver complex animations. 3D animation skills and Premier Pro highly regarded, including MoGRT creation and CANVA
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy across all platforms to uphold audience trust in design and the SBS brand
  • Globe mapping experience is also a requirement and an essential part of the role
  • A keen team player is a must
