Based in Gippsland, Latrobe Regional Health are looking for a Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse to join our Oncology on a part time, fixed term basis.

Reporting to the Chemotherapy Nurse Unit Manager, the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse plays an important role in the continuum of care for patients with cancer with the aim of improving individual health outcomes, and to provide support and advice to hospital staff and community care providers on aspects of Prostate cancer care management.

The role of Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse is to work in partnership across all health areas and sectors including non-government agencies to contribute the continuity and quality of care for patients diagnosed with prostate cancer. The level of intervention by the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse will vary according to the complexity of care required, based on the individual need of the patients in their care. Workload will be mainly self-generated, and this will be achieved through extensive interdisciplinary collaboration across primary, secondary and tertiary health. The nurse is required to develop and implement a coordinated, evidenced based, seamless, patient focused approach to providing cancer nursing care, whilst working within the Practice Framework and Competency Standards for the Prostate Cancer Specialist. The position may require some travel and attendance at meetings and forums both within state and interstate.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Registered Nurse of Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge in cancer or urology nursing and commitment to excellence in nursing practice and research
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership skills with ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills
  • Time management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines
  • Adherence to safe practice standards and policies
  • Sound knowledge of the Practice Framework and Competency Standards for the Prostate Cancer Specialist
  • High level decision-making ability
  • High level of consumer advocacy
  • Collaborate and liaise with a variety of service providers, professionals, care givers and other stakeholders
