About the Opportunity


The position is funded through DCJ as part of the Targeted Early Intervention (TEI) Program to support local children, parents and families who are experiencing or at risk of experiencing vulnerability.

The position is offered on a permanent part time basis till to June 2025 and thereafter pending funding availability.

Target groups include:
children 0-5, children 6-18, younger parents, single parents and CALD communities.

Responsibilities


The Child & Family Counsellor is responsible for providing individual counselling to parents/carers, adolescents and children; family counselling and couple counselling.

The Child & Family Counsellor offers short term casework support to vulnerable clients needing additional assistance.

As a member of the Greenacre Area Community Centre staff team, the role of the Child & Family Counsellor is to:
Work directly with the target group to provide a range of (TEI) services including:

  • Individual and family counselling;
  • Intake/Assessment
  • Support clients with short term casework as part of the counselling plan
  • Strengthen referral pathways with local schools, community organisations and government services
  • Provide support to identified families attending our Supported Playgroup and maintain close contact with playgorup staff

Qualifications
Social Work degree and/or Counselling degree or

Social Work degree with mental health accreditation.

About You
You have minimum 5 years counselling experience with vulnerable and disadvantaged clients;

You are a highly engaged professional who thrives in a busy work environment and can work self directed and collaboratively within the staff team.

You have the ability to build strong relationships with external services and allied professionals to strengthen referral pathways and increase community access for vulnerable and disadvantaged community members

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Social Work degree and/or Counselling degree or
  • Social Work degree with mental health accreditation.
  • Demonstrated minimum 5 years employment experience in a counselling role or where counseling was part of the role
  • Ability to provide intake/assessment and casework support
  • Ability to work with vulnerable and disadvantaged families
  • High level interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well to people from a diverse cultural background
  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the organisation's goals
  • Knowledge of current Child Protection legislation
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence and access to a vehicle

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Knowlege of or experience in the community services sector
