About You

Our Electrical Team is looking for Intermediate and Senior Electrical Engineers and Designers to be based in our Vancouver Island office in downtown Victoria.

About the Role

Our Intermediate and Senior Electrical Engineers and Designers are advanced technical designers who perform comprehensive building electrical system upgrades in one or a combination of the following areas: power distribution, lighting (indoor and outdoor), controls, fire alarms, and voice/data communication systems.

They have Project Management skills and will be involved in all the different project stages namely, response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), systems analyses, detailed design, procurement services, and construction oversight.

They interact directly with owners and architects and work collaboratively with team members coming from various engineering disciplines and third parties to propose and deliver effective, value-adding solutions.

Some of them hold leadership roles in other capacities such as leading and mentoring groups of more junior team members or leading the development and delivery in various service areas.

Following are their specific responsibilities.
Building Systems Design

Conduct of conceptual designs and detailed cost estimates for building electrical system upgrades, development of business cases and preparation of client reports

Carrying out detailed design of building electrical systems, applying engineering knowledge in the preparation of technical specifications and documentation and in using theories and calculations to arrive at solutions.

Preparing tender documentation for procurement of equipment and installation, in coordination with owners on requirements
Ensuring that construction and implementation are carried out within agreed project timelines, in coordination with owners and constructors.

Carrying out field reviews, review documents during construction and provide instructions and solutions to the problems to ensure the project is constructed per design intend and Owner's requirements.

Project Management

Managing projects and phases.
This includes resource planning, budgeting, change management, scope management, schedule and contingency planning and resolution.
Providing guidance and supervision to more junior members of the project team.

Marketing and Business Development

Preparing technical responses to Requests for Proposal (RFP's)
Building and maintaining effective relationships with Prism's key clients and managing key accounts
Promoting the team's and wider Prism services (i.e.
cross-services marketing) to existing and potential clients

This is a 40-hour per week salaried position in a hybrid work environment.

The candidate must have the ability to travel locally with occasional trips to other BC communities and provinces across Canada.

Qualifications and Experience
The following qualifications, experience and competences are considered major assets:

Equivalent of at least 6 years prior experience in the design of building electrical systems.
Professional Engineering (P.
Eng) certification or eligibility to apply for P.
Eng
Considerable range of exposure to various types of facilities (strong exposure to commercial- and institutional-type projects preferred) and systems.

Skilled application of Auto CAD drafting software (Revit modelling experience also an asset)
Project management skills and experience
Applied knowledge of energy efficiency, sustainability and climate change considerations in designs
