Position Information:


Green Square Public School is a new school being built as part of the Green Square urban renewal precinct, located in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney.

The school will open in 2025 and is at the centre of a rapidly growing multicultural community, surrounded by residential development, new public buildings and green spaces.

Forward thinking architectural designs are enabling the school to be built with engaging, flexible learning spaces, a full range of educational facilities, nurturing play spaces and community spaces.

As a shared community facility with the City of Sydney, the school will be the heart of the community both in function and culture.

At capacity, our school will cater for 600 students and will accept Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students in 2025.

We will then welcome Years 3 and 4 students in 2026 and Years 5 and 6 in 2027.

These Assistant Principal positions will form the foundation leadership team for the school and will have the unique and exciting role of contributing to the shaping of the school's vision, priorities, educational framework, learning programs, wellbeing approaches, systems, community engagement strategy and overall school culture.

Our leadership team will focus on the children in their care with unwavering commitment, achieving outstanding learning outcomes for all students.

They will actively lead stage and whole school teams, innovative learning programs, develop original ideas and lead enrichment programs.

Members of our team will take initiative, be risk takers, have a creative and curious mindset, be focused on quality professional learning for teachers, implement contemporary wellbeing approaches and be central to realising authentic collective efficacy across our school community.

High expectations will guide the work of the team in establishing a high performing, flourishing school that will work in an innovative manner to serve our community.

Due to the unique and complex nature of opening a new school, it is anticipated that these positions will commence in Term 3 and Term 4 prior to the opening of the school in 2025.


Selection Criteria:

  • In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with demonstrated capacity to inspire quality teaching practices using exemplary curriculum knowledge and the ability to lead the implementation of engaging learning programs within a high expectations framework.
  • Ability to lead the development of contemporary wellbeing strategies that build a positive learning culture, high levels of student engagement, a strong sense of belonging and positive mental health for all members of the school community.
  • Success in leading a pedagogical focus centred on creative and critical thinking capabilities and the development of future focused educational practices that nurture thinking skills, resilience, selfreflection, curiosity, creativity, persistence and a growth mindset for all children.

General Selection Criteria:

  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning 6.
Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
