The Opportunity:


The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Service Level 4/5 Technical Operations Control Room Operator within Digital Recording Services Branch.


Who we are looking for:


We are looking for an experienced and competent person with knowledge and proven experience in the technical aspects of live television operations, live audio production and audio-visual services.

You will be working in a small team to maintain signal routing paths, undertake monitoring, routine checks, fault finding and provide first line support and technical training to our operations and production staff.

This technical operations role will challenge your ability to coordinate multiple tasks, your attention to detail, and your calm professionalism under pressure.

The successful applicant will also be required to assist in the planning, setting up, operations and CCUing of 'OB' style events of parliamentary productions within and around Parliament House.

Experience in these areas will be a definite advantage.

Job Specific Requirements:

The successful applicant will be required to:

  • obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.
- be able, and to be seen to be able, to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice.
- work extended and/or irregular hours on an "as required" basis. Duties may also require interstate travel as directed.
- be deployed to duties of an equivalent level in this or another area of the department to meet changing work priorities as needed.

Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Service Level 4/5 classification.

The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Operate a range of broadcasting-related technical equipment in support of parliamentary proceedings.
  • Diagnose technical faults and provide troubleshooting in a Technical Operations Control Room.
  • Monitor equipment performance and ensure that it operates in line with prescribed technical standards.
  • Actively manage the equipment fault-logging procedure.
  • Ensure that follow-up repairs and maintenance are completed by the section in a timely manner.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating broadcasting resources for major parliamentary productions.
  • Liaise directly with a broad range of stakeholders to offer relevant advice and guidance.
  • Collaborate with the team to facilitate knowledge sharing and to escalate issues where appropriate.
  • Employees of DPS are required to be able, and to be seen to be able, to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice._

Selection Criteria:

  • Proven experience in operating a range of broadcastingrelated technical equipment associated with a Technical Operations Control Room.
  • Experience in a highpressure and live broadcasting environment.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment faults and provide firstline support to operational staff.
  • Capacity to analyse and solve problems of a broadcasting nature
  • Highly professional communications skills appropriate to working with executive level stakeholders.
  • Proactive approach to managing and completing work tasks, ensuring that timelines are maintained.
  • Willingness to collaborate with other members of the team and facilitate knowledge sharing for the overall benefit of the section.
