Health Services Manager Level 3 - $2,295.15 to $2,616.48 per week (pro rata for part time)

About the role

We are seeking a Public Affairs and Communications Manager, to join our small but busy Public Relations Department.

As the lead communications professional at Calvary Mater Newcastle you will be responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of the hospital's programme of activities for marketing, promotions, fundraising and media management.


Directly reporting to the General Manager, and working closely with the hospital's Executives, you will work across a broad range of communications and projects.

You will be responsible for the maintenance of systems and management of activities by which the hospital interacts with its internal and external stakeholders and partners.


If you are seeking a temporary position from June 2023 to April 2024, with the opportunity to work full time or on a four day part time basis, this position could be for you.

Key Responsibilities


Manage the functions of the Public Affairs and Communications Department to ensure effective issues management, function management, marketing, media stories and promotion of Calvary Mater Newcastle internally and externally occurs.


Manage brand and copy across a variety of media, such as brochures, newsletters, website and social, with the ability to successfully leverage insights into the development of these materials.


Build and maintain strong relationships with staff, to ensure clear and open communication on all matters related to mission, ethics, culture, and patient-centred high quality care within Calvary Mater Newcastle.


Be a hospital co-lead on Standard 2 Partnering with Consumers, part of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.

What you bring

Relevant tertiary qualification e.g. marketing, public relations, communication.

Proven leadership experience working in a similar position.

Demonstrated experience in media liaison and strong co-ordination skills.

Excellent written communication skills.


Excellent presentation and communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with a broad range of stakeholders including donors, sponsors and supporters.

Demonstrated knowledge of the Charitable Fund Raising Act and other relevant legislation/regulations.

Demonstrated experience and skills in event planning, co-ordination and management.

A desire to join a team committed to the care of others in a mission based organisation


Calvary Mater Newcastle is an Affiliated Health Organisation providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area.

Current employees of NSW Health can request to have various leave entitlement balances transferred to Calvary Mater Newcastle on commencement.
