THE OPPORTUNITY


We are looking for a Financial Crime Manager to lead and help develop the newly formed Financial Crime Team in Sydney with support from the wider New Business Intake team and the Financial Crime team in London.


Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing specialist expert advice and support to the Firm and key stakeholders on their financial crime regulatory obligations, including around analysis and management of risk arising from the Firm's business.
  • Supporting HSF's Australian business on the upcoming extension of AML/CTF laws to the Australian legal profession.
  • Actively contributing to the analysis and implementation of financial crime regulatory developments and be able to implement these in the context of a large international law firm.


You will have a good understanding of the types of matters and transactions an international firm undertakes and develop a strong knowledge of the firm's global new business on-boarding systems, controls and procedures.


SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Management experience in leading and developing a team.
  • Technical expertise on applicable financial crime and AML/CTF regulations and legislation.
  • Able to develop and maintain global workflow processes and work well with the Financial Crime Team in London.
  • An ability to handle complex and confidential matters, with total discretion.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritise multiple tasks simultaneously.

New Business Intake falls under the General Counsel & Risk function and we are responsible for the resolution of complex legal and commercial conflict problems globally.

We play a key role in the development and shaping of firm strategy globally by liaising with Sector Lead Partners, Regional/Global Heads of Practice and Business Development to ensure that any new instructions are a commercial fit for the firm.
