About the Role


We are seeking to appoint a proactive and highly motivated person to a full-time permanent position based at THQ Redfern with some Hybrid working.


Reporting to the Executive Manager Safeguarding Operations, you will be an integral member of a highly effective and established Safeguarding team ensuring The Salvation Army adopts child safe strategies and acts to promote a culture of safety and well-being for children and young people.

As a Safeguarding Consultant your primary responsibility is to lead the implementation of TSA's

_Safety and Wellbeing of Children and Young People Framework and Policy _primarily across Queensland, requiring frequent intrastate travel and occasional interstate travel.

The key responsibilities of the role include;

  • Providing specialist Safeguarding advice and support to frontline personnel to deliver best safeguarding practices;
  • Promoting a positive Safeguarding culture through capacity building training and development to embed Safeguarding into day to day operations;
  • Providing expert Safeguarding risk assessments;
  • Identifying safeguarding risks and opportunities for continuous improvement;
  • Strengthening the practice and culture of Safeguarding throughout The Salvation Army.
  • Note: This role will require flexible hours including: periodic on call for weekends and public holidays, weekend and after hours work for training where training groups are not available during weekday work hours (e.g. Volunteers and Ministry Leaders), and regular travel throughout the Division where the role is based._
About You

To be successful in this role you will maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality and will have;

  • A broad understanding of the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (essential);
  • Involvement in leading cultural change and child safety initiatives in large organisations, preferably in a faith based organisation or church;
  • Proven experience in assessing safeguarding risks and report writing skills;
  • Availability to weekends and holiday periods;
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, problemsolving, interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, relationship building and engagement capabilities;
  • A driver's license, Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
