The Role


ALS Metallurgy, a subsidiary in the ALS Group, is seeking a Mineralogist for our busy business based in the northern suburbs of Perth.


This is a permanent, full-time position within the Mineralogy team conducting mineralogical investigations in support of the facilities' metallurgical testing capabilities.

This position will suit a geoscientist with background primarily in Geology and/or Mineralogy who is dynamic, self-motivated, and seeking a secure long-term Perth based role.

The day to day

The role is based in the Balcatta laboratory. Geology and/or mineralogy experience is highly desirable. Experience in process mineralogy would be advantageous.

An understanding of the capability and output of various mineralogical analysis tools, including automated mineralogy by electron microscope (QEMSCAN, TIMA, etc.) and XRD, would be highly regarded.


Duties include:

  • Conduct mineralogical investigations and interpret data to prepare quality mineralogical reports
  • Assist technical staff in instrument operation when required
  • Provide advice to technical staff on sample preparation and analysis requirements
  • Liaise with metallurgical staff and external clients regarding results and reporting
  • Perform any additional tasks required by ALS Metallurgy Management.
  • Compliance with regulatory and ALS policies regarding Health, Safety and
the Environment is a must.

The essentials

  • You hold a tertiary qualification in science, preferably in Geology and/or Mineralogy
  • You have highly developed computer skills, especially in MS EXCEL, and are familiar with data manipulation
  • You have excellent attention to detail
  • You have welldeveloped communication skills
  • You are able to work in a team environment and independently
  • You are a selfstarter with initiative
