u&u are very excited to be partnering with the Chemistry Centre at the QLD Department of Environment, Science and Innovation. The Chemistry Centre, located in the Eco sciences Precinct in Brisbane, provides National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA)-accredited analytical chemistry services to inform research and decision-making in natural resource, water quality, environmental and agricultural management in Queensland, Australia and overseas. With a history spanning more than 100 years, the Centre partners with state and national government agencies, research institutes and private organisations to deliver cutting-edge scientific solutions.

The Opportunity:

  • We are seeking an OO3 Scientific Assistant to join our client within the Chemistry Centre for Soil and Catchment Science team. This role offers an exciting chance to support vital environmental research and analysis;
  • Prepare reagents, solutions and soil, plant and water samples;
  • Operate and calibrate laboratory equipment, including digestion blocks, centrifuges and spectrophotometers;
  • Receive, label and allocate samples using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS);
  • Compile and use spreadsheets for laboratory applications; and
  • Provide training and supervise peers, students and other officers in basic laboratory equipment operation.

Required Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scientific research and laboratory work, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to work collaboratively within a team;
  • Demonstrated laboratory experience and application of skills in performing tasks under supervision;
  • Ability to follow work plans, complete tasks and seek feedback from supervisors;
  • Effective communication skills to provide responsive and accurate information;
  • Team-oriented with the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and discretion;
  • Proficiency in using laboratory information management systems and compiling data; and
  • This role is open to early career and graduate applicants.
