The State Actuary's Office provides actuarial services and advice to Queensland Government departments and agencies to enable the Government and its agencies to understand and manage their long-term financial liabilities, e.g.

superannuation, long service leave and insurance. In addition, the Office provides policy advice to the Government on actuarial matters.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Recognised actuarial qualifications and Fellowship of the Actuaries Institute, with specialisation in either General Insurance or Superannuation sufficient to provide actuarial advice in the relevant area in accordance with the Actuaries Institute Code of Conduct
  • Recognition as an expert actuarial advisor in either General Insurance or Superannuation
  • Comprehensive understanding of actuarial modelling software
  • Strong and effective written and oral communication skills to all stakeholder levels
  • The ability to understand and manage the nuances of public sector schemes and Government policy issues.

The responsibilities of the role include the following:

  • Providing actuarial services and advice regarding the Government's employee entitlement schemes and/or public sector general insurance schemes, with the ability to advise on 'non-standard' actuarial matters as required.
  • Communicating the results of complex actuarial analysis to stakeholders at all levels, including Senior Executives, Ministers, Boards and Parliamentary Committees.
  • Building and maintaining strong and effective working relationships across Queensland Government departments and agencies, with Ministers and Parliamentary Committees, a range of government boards such as the Australian Retirement Trust Board, other State Governments, the Australian Government and other external stakeholders.
  • Leading and managing a small professional team, ensuring ongoing coaching, mentoring and guidance to promote continual development and skills transfer.
