Job: Energy Markets Analyst at Octopus Australia

We are seeking an exceptional Energy Markets Analyst to join our dynamic Energy Markets team at Octopus Australia, reporting directly to the Director of Energy Markets and Analytics. This exciting opportunity is available in either Sydney or Melbourne, offering you the chance to play a key role in shaping both our portfolio and the energy landscape in Australia.

Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of three years of experience in Energy Markets or Analytics, demonstrating proficiency in developing intricate models and analyzing energy markets to drive business outcomes. While familiarity with energy forecasting tools like Plexos is a plus, a strong willingness to learn and adapt to such platforms is paramount.

In addition to achieving results, your approach to the role is equally vital. We expect you to actively collaborate within the team, leveraging your energy market expertise to contribute to investment decisions and interact with various stakeholders. Qualifications:

  • A diverse role that involves:
    • Constructing, managing, and utilizing Plexos models for Decision Support.
    • Developing models and conducting data analytics using core platforms such as Python, R, SQL, and Power BI.
    • Examining market dynamics to predict commercial repercussions.
  • Collaborating with other members of the energy markets team to implement the analytical roadmap, fostering a robust data and modeling ecosystem for improved insights.
  • Playing a crucial part in shaping Octopus's vision of the future energy market, providing insightful analysis for investment decisions and renewable portfolio development.
  • Engaging collaboratively across energy markets, Investment, and development teams to evaluate emerging technology opportunities, including hydrogen and electrification, and their market impact.

Required Skills:

  • Solid background in data analytics or data science – must exhibit a passion for data and a strong desire to excel in the energy analytics sector.
  • Adept at data analysis with proficiency in coding languages like Python, R, and data analytics tools like SQL and Power BI.
  • Demonstrated capability to address complex market challenges in a broader business context and formulate analytical solutions.
  • Experience with energy market forecasting tools like Plexos is highly valued.
  • Familiarity or experience in the energy industry is advantageous.

Experience Required:

  • Eligibility to work in Australia – no visa sponsorship provided.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a similar analytical or energy markets role.
  • Ability to deliver compelling analytical insights on the energy market and engage effectively at a Senior Managerial level.
