Our client is in search of a Test Engineer - Control System to join their team in Perth, Australia.

The Company

A leading player in renewable energy, expanding their team for a new project in Perth.

The Role

Working closely with a team of testing and calibration professionals, you will be instrumental in the development and testing of various technologies for fleet and rail locomotives. Your responsibilities will include designing and testing new test suites, as well as streamlining validation processes for industrial automation controls.

This position is based in Perth and is initially a 12-month contract.

Responsibilities

  • Implement V-Model verification and validation strategies to align software testing with industrial automation control requirements.
  • Champion a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
  • Utilize industry standards, workflows, and best practices.
  • Create and execute test cases.
  • Develop and implement processes to automate test cases in CI/CD pipelines.
  • Design, develop, and maintain plant model simulators for testing purposes.
  • Establish and maintain the testing environment, including Hardware in the Loop simulators.

Requirements

  • Experience in testing industrial automation software and controllers, preferably in sectors like mining, marine, rail, or automotive.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in Control Systems Engineering or similar roles.
  • Proficiency in PLC and HMI programming (Ladder, FBD, ST, Python, etc.).
  • Familiarity with various controllers and SCADA systems (CODESYS, Siemens, Ignition).
  • Knowledge of industrial and automotive communication protocols (CAN, J1939, Profinet, Profibus, UDP, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC UA, MQTT SpB).
  • Experience in configuring VVVF/VSD drives or DC-DC converters.
  • Background in developing simulation code or simulators, such as PLC-based simulation software like Matlab/Simulink.
  • Understanding of the full software development life cycle, including documentation, requirements, testing, deployment, and traceability.
  • Advantageous to have experience in HME/Automotive/Rail and Functional Safety delivery.
  • Familiarity with software version control systems like Git or SVN is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and work in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Must be based in Perth with full Australian working rights.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Control Systems, Mechatronics, Electronic, Electrical, or Software Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
