Senior Security Engineer required - focus on hardening Servers both physical & virtual.

Our client, a major player in the cybersecurity domain, seeking a skilled Senior Security Engineer for an initial 3-month engagement with view to extend and opportunity to convert to Permanent.

This role focuses on implementing rigorous hardening policies and configurations across a suite of physical and virtual servers.
Join our client on major government and enterprise projects.

Key Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with IEC62443 security guidelines requirements (2-4), including adherence to SP.03.05 "Least Functionality".
Implement NIST hardening guidelines (SP800-123, chapters 3&4) to "Harden and configure the OS to address security adequately".
Define and execute hardening guidelines for Red Hat 9.3 and Windows Server 2022 operating systems.

Enforce server hardening controls, encompassing:
Utilising data encryption protocols to safeguard sensitive information.
Streamlining software usage to minimise potential vulnerabilities.
Disabling unnecessary SUID and SGID binaries to mitigate exploitation risks.
Ensuring timely updates of security patches.
Strengthening user account security with robust, regularly rotated passwords and implementing account locking measures after specified login failures.
Customising default ports and settings to enhance security posture.
Minimising open network ports and establishing resilient software and hardware firewalls.

Additional Requirements:


Develop comprehensive as-built documentation (one per operating system) detailing applied settings and policies to establish a best-practice security baseline for servers operated by the organisation.

Each setting and policy should feature a brief rationale and detailed technical information, including executable commands and specific configuration values.


Required Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent certification preferred.
Extensive experience in implementing security measures within enterprise environments.
Experience with both Windows and Linux VMs
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
