Clinical Microbiologist RMH - (Parental leave cover 02 April March 2025)

  • The Royal Melbourne Microbiology Laboratory is a 24hour laboratory which services the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (PMCC). As one of the largest hospitals in Victoria, The Royal Melbourne Hospital (part of Melbourne Health) provides a comprehensive range of health services across two campuses. RMH plays a key role within the broader Victorian health sector as a major Victorian referral service for specialist and complex care being a designated statewide provider for services including trauma. It also contains centres of excellence for tertiary services in several key specialties including neurosciences, nephrology, oncology, cardiology and genomics. The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is Australia's only public health service dedicated to caring for people affected by cancer. PMCC is also dedicated to research and education related to the diagnosis and management of cancer. world leading cancer research, education and treatment centre
  • RMH Microbiology works closely with the infectious diseases, infection control and AMS services at both the RMH and PMCC. The laboratory also has strong collaborations with other laboratories in the Parkville Precinct, including the state reference laboratories VIDRL and MDU-PHL.

Position:

  • We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join the RMH Microbiology Service.
  • We have the following opportunity available: Fixed Term position at 56 hours per fortnight (Tuesday-Friday)
    Your Opportunity:
  • Assist the Head of department in the supervision and operational aspects of the department
  • Contribute to the department of Microbiology in laboratory work, clinical care, research and teaching
  • Contribute to the training of the Microbiology registrar
  • Meet all compliance and regulatory obligations

Formal Qualifications Required:

  • Registration as a specialist in Microbiology (AHPRA)
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.

Essential Qualities:

  • Expertise in clinical Microbiology commensurate with supervising a complex clinical service

Desired Qualities:

  • Clinical infectious diseases or public health experience (e.g. FRACP)
  • Higher research degree or significant research experience

About You:

  • Experience in supervising diagnostic virology laboratory services
  • Experience in supervising diagnostic serological laboratory services
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with clinicians, public health officials, scientists, researchers.
  • Good at working in a collaborative environment
  • Experience in teaching, both undergraduates and supervision of registrars
  • Experience in research, project management, and leading quality improvement initiatives
