We are currently seeking a dedicated P03 equivalent Pasture Agronomist.

  • Pay rate 58+p /h + super
  • Located in Toowoomba QLD
  • ASAP starts until 8 March 2025 assignment with potential to extend, pending business and performance requirements

About the role

As a Pasture Agronomist, you will play a vital role in bolstering the resilience of Queensland's pastures and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Your expertise will contribute to cutting-edge research and development efforts aimed at optimising sown pasture management and enhancing livestock production in Southern Queensland's diverse environments.


Your responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with pasture agronomists and beef extension officers to deliver the Queensland Pasture Resilience Program.
  • Conduct fieldbased research and development activities on sown pastures, animal performance, and pasture dieback management.
  • Analyse and report outcomes of research and demonstration trials, including maintaining databases, producing figures, and writing extension publications and scientific papers.
  • Deliver extension activities to promote the adoption of pasture legumes, improve sown pasture management, manage pasture dieback, and maintain land condition.
  • Work effectively as part of the sown pasture team, collaborating with other staff and external organisations.
  • Provide technical information and research results on sown pastures to graziers, farm advisors, and colleagues.

About You

To thrive in this role, you need:

  • Technical knowledge of sown pasture agronomy and animal production systems in sub-tropical and tropical environments in Australia.
  • Strong communication skills for writing technical reports, extension publications, and presenting technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies applicable to fieldbased sown pasture production.
  • Understanding of agricultural extension methodologies to facilitate the adoption of improved management practices.
  • Australian Bachelor degree or higher in Agricultural/Applied/Environmental Science
  • Q fever vaccination or evidence of prior immunity
  • Ability to work in physically demanding field conditions
  • Willingness to undertake frequent travel, including overnight stays
  • Current "C" class driver license (manual if automatic only)
  • Must have full working rights in Australia.
  • Be able to pass and hold national police check.
