Newcastle Private Hospital is a 189 bed, acute, private hospital facility co-located on the John Hunter Campus at Rankin Park.

The hospital has 11 theatres including a hybrid theatre and a 15 bed Intensive Care Unit. It also has a cardiac suite including a cardiac catheter laboratory and a 16 bed Coronary Care Unit.

A private maternity suite including 6 birthing suites and a special care baby nursery is available for families in the Newcastle region.

Newcastle private is looking for a dedicated social worker that can provide a supportive and coordinated guidance, both clinically and administratively to patients in the Inpatient Therapy program and Outpatient Day Program.

Our Social Worker will have a passion for excellence in customer service delivery to join our team.

As a Social Worker your responsibilities will include:

Working independently with the patients and as a multidisciplinary team member of mental health professionals; and to liaise closely with the treating psychiatrist.

You will offer a broad range of psychotherapeutic groups and activities, some including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Men's Group, Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy, Psycho education, etc.


Our expert team of surgeons, specialist doctors, dedicated nurses and other professionals will ensure patient experience is the best it can be.

As we are now a teaching hospital with both medical, allied health and nursing students, our focus is excellence in patient outcomes and growing the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Supported by the latest technology, we provide the full range of surgical, medical and rehabilitation services.

And while we're renowned for cardiology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics and oncology, we're also a popular destination for mums to be, and growing families.


Not only do we treat patients from Newcastle but also surrounding regions including Lake Macquarie, Maitland, upper and lower Hunter Valley, Taree, and Port Stephens.

Selection Criteria:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Social Work
  • Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Welldeveloped communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisation, time management and selfmanagement skills
  • Highly developed communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work within and provide leadership within a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to ongoing education and the provision of evidence based practice
  • Current Australian Driver's Licence desirable
