As part of the Parks Services Team, you are responsible for supervising internal work teams and external contractors, ensuring a proactive, high quality and cost effective maintenance service is delivered that meets the City's standards.

Using your leadership skills, you will direct subordinate staff to ensure performance targets are met, providing clear instruction on agreed levels of service.

Your well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to innovate, will enable you to ensure employees are performing at the required standards and you will support ongoing improvement of the team, participating in employee performance and professional development reviews.

You will promote working within a safe environment and will identify opportunities for continuous improvement.


Your experience of budgeting will enable you to review the annual budget information and prepare quantities and cost estimates for budget items.

You will also liaise with the Coordinator in the management of contract documentation, including tenders and quotes and maintenance of on-going contracts.

Your experience in tree management will allow you to review and develop Safe Work Method Statements and assist in the development of policies and procedures, as well as contributing to reports for Council consideration.


You are a self-motivated go-getter who is able to provide expert advice and strategic direction to the organisation and are comfortable communicating across all levels of the organisation and the community it serves with a qualification in Tree Management and possess a current valid 'C' class driver's licence.


  • Advanced knowledge of amenity horticulture and public open space management
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the preparation and implementation of cyclical maintenance schedules
  • Comprehensive knowledge of landscape construction principles
  • Comprehensive knowledge of plant, weed, pest and disease identification
  • Strong written and interpersonal skills, particularly verbal communication
  • Welldeveloped time management and organisational skills
  • Intermediate level of computer literacy skills
  • Welldeveloped knowledge of WHS legislation, policies and practices
  • Ability to audit facilities for quality, compliance and defects
  • Extensive demonstrated experience in the supervising operational maintenance requirements of all horticultural and public open space functions including in house field staff and contractors
  • Extensive experience in horticultural management preferably in local government or in the area of commercial grounds maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience in managing annual budgets, contracts, service requests, multidisciplinary projects and procurement
We are offering a gross salary from $88,929 to 95,469 per annum (depending on skills and experience), access to a City vehicle and:

  • 11% superannuation with the option to co-contribute up to a further 5%
