Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage in a APS5 HR Advisor

for a 12 month Ongoing and Non-Ongoing positions in Adelaide.

We are the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. We lead Australia's response to climate change and sustainable energy use, and help protect our environment, heritage, and water. We provide advice to the Australian Government around climate, energy, and the environment, and administer legislation.

The department also enforce laws relating to the protection of the environment and biodiversity, wildlife, fuel quality and greenhouse gas storage.

About the branch

The Capability and Employment (C&E) Branch sits within the department's Operations Division and is responsible for strategic and operational focused human resources (HR) advice and support services, to support business areas in meeting their workforce needs.

About the team
The HR Help team are the front door to all HR related services for the department. The HR Help team work to reduce the duplication of HR matters as a dedicated triage and escalation point.

The team assists the department with HR enquiries across the various HR functions including:

  • Understanding the status of onboarding for new starters
  • Navigating changes to org structures and positions including gaining access across networks
  • Recruitment
  • Enterprise Agreement leave, pay, and allowances
  • Flexible working Arrangement advice on creating or updating arrangements
  • Probation, performance agreements and performance management
  • Workstation assessments requests and relevant recommendations
  • Rehabilitation and health records
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Recruitment
  • Reassignment of duties, including temporary
  • Adhoc HR matters if needed
You will have demonstrated experience in operating and delivering HR functions in a high profile and impactful environment.

You will also bring innovation to your team and support the delivery of strategic and/or operational HR functions for the department.


Requirements for the position:

  • Brings an innovative approach to exploring options and influencing decisions supported by data and evidence, with the support of your supervisor
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and customer service focus you understand that the customer is at the centre of service delivery and strategy development
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills
  • Key organisational ability, good professional judgement and sound interpersonal skills
  • A proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and the ability to work autonomously when needed
  • The ability to use sound judgement and discretion to escalate HR queries to the responsible supervisor when needed
  • Is committed to building your own cultural and disability competency.

What you will do
As a HR Advisor within the HR Help team you will:

  • provide specialist advice on, and interpretation of, employee relations policy and legislation to guide managers and employees and assist in the resolution of complex issues and sensitive matters,
- undertake and manage moderately complex projects with limited supervision, including identifying areas for cross collaboration,
- manage relationships with stakeholder to achieve work area and agency goals, including the development and support of complex relationships and maintaining internal and external networks,
- contribute to the leadership, mentoring and development of junior employees,
- identify and provide feedback on efficiencies and opportunity to improve and/or streamline systems and processes,
- identify, mitigate and resolve risks and problems as they or before arise, and
- some experience or knowledge in HR related fields in desirable, but not required.
