Our Family:

  • We are a family of four, with two girls: one toddler aged 3, and a baby of 3 months.
We live in Carlton North near lots of fun things:
a park, library, cafes and a swimming pool all in walking distance. I work in policy, and am currently on parental leave until later this year. My partner works in the legal profession. As a family, we love catching up with friends in the park, cooking, and living room dance parties. We are socially and environmentally conscious (or try to be), and love learning about different cultures and perspectives.

Our approach to parenting is gentle - we try our best to make our kids feel safe, heard and respected, and we are hoping to teach them to treat others in this way.


Your Duties:

  • Typical tasks would be:
  • Engage our 3 year old in age appropriate play, take her to the park (5 min walk), explore the local area with her (library is 300 meters away, local pool is 7 minutes walk), or play at home on rainy days. She loves drawing, singing, and being pushed on the swing.
  • Prepare basic snacks and meals for our 3 year old, such as cooking noodles/pasta and mixing with veggies and protein
  • Work with our toddler to teach her to respect and care for her home environment, and contribute to keeping the home tidy (putting away dishes used by kids, packing up toys that you have used together, etc)
  • On occasion supervise both children for short periods of time (for example, if I have to run an errand locally). This will change as the youngest child gets older. Cleaning beyond light tidying is not expected, as we have a cleaner and also clean our home ourselves. However, we want someone who can work proactively and use down time to put away toys in a way that helps us teach our kids how to participate in a home. When I return to work, the intention is that you could look after both of the kids, or just our youngest, for a few days a week while I am working, and that the relationship could grow from a casual position to a parttime position. The start date is a little in the future, but we would like to start to get to know you with casual shifts over the coming months before transitioning to more regular hours.

  • Our ideal caregiver is someone who is passionate about early childhood education, and approaches their work professionally and proactively. We would love someone who can help us to lighten the load on busy days, and who understands the pressures on working parents. A calm, kind presence would be lovely, as well as someone who can come in and take charge when toast is being thrown across the room by our toddler We practice responsive parenting, and would like someone who believes in these principles and is keen to invest in a relationship with us and the girls.
