  • Directs an underwriting group, responsible for business outcomes, profitability, and scaling a portfolio. Collaborates with senior management, operating with extensive authority. Manages regional, industry, or company-wide targets.
  • Utilizes advanced analytical tools to evaluate complex underwriting risks. Sets pricing strategies based on robust financial analysis and market trends, complying with regulations with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Manages and mentors staff to align with corporate objectives.
  • Leads underwriters, provides guidance, and shapes training programs.
  • Contributes to underwriting policies, marketing, and business strategies.
  • Develops operational strategies to drive business growth and meet goals.
  • Oversees underwriting policy implementation and pricing decisions.
  • Engages in product marketing through agencies or brokers.
  • Cultivates relationships with agencies/brokers for positive outcomes.
  • Reports business updates to senior management.
  • Stays abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and represents the company in trade groups.
Reporting Relationship:AVP or aboveSkills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Proficient in leading and developing underwriting teams.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • In-depth technical expertise, underwriting acumen, and knowledge of insurance principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, adept at managing multiple projects.
  • Skilled in handling ambiguous situations and demonstrating creativity in problem-solving.
  • Proactive approach towards achieving business objectives with a long-term perspective.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business software.
Education and Experience:
  • MBA or equivalent experience, professional designations preferred.
  • Minimum ten years of successful underwriting experience.
