The role

As the Senior Specialist, Payments, you will be accountable in this role for some of the following:

Leading and driving projects (both ASIC-wide and R&S specific) on law reform and implementation, new and updated regulatory guides and instruments, supervision of the payments sector and licensing. Using of regulatory intelligence to provide evidence based strategic advice on diverse and complex regulatory law reform implementation, surveillance and licensing issues. Devising strategies on how best to respond to emerging and new areas of law reform and implementation, including the identification and prioritisation of law reform initiatives. Identify new ways to utilise data to deliver priorities, including effective collection, management, analysis, and communication of insights from data. Managing and providing input into ASIC's responses to government inquiries. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to provide technical expertise, input and guidance on legal and regulatory issues, and leading regulatory policy projects that in support the of Commission's ASIC's strategic objectives. Guiding project teams undertaking research, analysis, and project work on law reform, policy, and implementation as required. Facilitating the strategic thinking and thought process around how best to respond to emerging issues across the sector. Building and maintaining strategic partnerships with stakeholders. Coordinating, and providing strategic direction, industry knowledge and technical expertise for ASIC's work in the payments sector Managing a team responsible for assessing applications for Australian financial services licences in relation to payments and other licences activities including credit and auditor related registrations providing strategic input on a range of financial services, credit licensing and auditor related matters to support ASIC's licensing, compliance and deterrence outcomes Effectively represent ASIC externally and develop effective, productive relationships with stakeholders such as government. Developing, maintaining, and enhancing collaborative working relationships across ASIC teams.

About you

A relevant tertiary qualification. Well-developed technical understanding of the Australian financial system, including in relation to payment systems, and knowledge of or exposure to ASIC's regulatory functions. Demonstrated experience in a technical leadership role, providing strategic direction, and influencing the team to achieve shared goals. Strategic thinking, analytical, investigative and research skills, including data analysis and presentation. An understanding of the benefits in developing strategic relationships, including with Treasury, that partner to ensure the effective use of all available data and information opportunities. Conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills as well as drawing reasoned influences from qualitative and quantitative data and to reach robust and practical conclusions. Demonstrated experience providing strategic direction and complex technical and regulatory guidance. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to prepare concise and accurate business reporting to be presented to Executive and Board level. Demonstrated experience in attention to detail in all technical matters and a continuous improvement approach to process and practice. Experience providing strategic direction and complex technical and regulatory guidance. Ability to work autonomously, work with a team with proven analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills. Proven strategic thinking and analytical skills, identifying emerging trends and risk areas. Demonstrated experience mentoring and leading in a high-performing environment, providing strategic direction, and coaching for performance.
