The Take the Lead - Aspiring Associate Leaders program is an intensive leadership capability development opportunity to prepare current high-performing Queensland state school teachers for rural and remote middle leadership roles such as Head of Curriculum/Department, Head of Special Education Services and Deputy Principal.

Take the Lead provides participants the opportunity to develop their personal and professional capabilities on their journey to becoming effective school and system leaders in Queensland's rural and remote state schools.

This program will be held in Atherton, Far North Queensland Region, from 28 May to 2 June 2023 (Week 7, Term 2).

A signature part of the program includes a residential component over a week-long period. It includes full days of professional learning, school visits and evening workshops. Participants are required to attend the residential component and commit to ongoing development within a professional learning community.

As part of the program, the Department of Education will fund certain costs associated with the residential workshop and will organise participant travel.

It will be hosted and facilitated by the Atherton Centre for Learning and Wellbeing and supported by the Rural and Remote unit, Teaching, Leadership, Rural and Remote branch, Queensland Department of Education.

Eligibility
Applicants must demonstrate currency and be experienced permanent teachers or school leaders with the Queensland Department of Education. All applicants must possess full registration with the Queensland College of Teachers. Applicants from a range of teaching, leadership, experience and qualification backgrounds are encouraged to apply. A strong interest in pursuing rural and remote leadership opportunities is highly desirable.

  • A resume (maximum 2 pages)
  • A cover letter (maximum 1 page) outlining your career aspirations for the next 12 years and your capability, willingness and commitment to working in a rural or remote state school, including a timeframe for moving to a rural or remote community if not already there. The cover letter also represents an opportunity to introduce yourself, outline why you are interested in Take the Lead and share what makes you an ideal applicant for this program.
  • A written response (maximum 1 page) to the Selection Criteria below:
  • Demonstrated leadership of a curriculum, teaching and learning environment, leading to the achievement of quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to develop and sustain productive relationships within and beyond the school community.
  • The Take the Lead Referee Report signed by your current supervisor and endorsed by your principal. If you are currently acting or in a principal role, the Referee Report must be completed by your Assistant Regional Director (ARD). Only principals should seek a Referee Report from an ARD. The signed Referee Report will need to be scanned so that it can be submitted electronically if digital signatures are not possible.
