The Arts, Events, and Libraries Department at the City of Kingston focuses on delivering cutting-edge programs and activities. The library service, one of the departments managed, operates eight branches across the region.

The Role at Kingston Libraries

Kingston Council is looking for casual librarians to join the team at Kingston Libraries. Your responsibilities include:

  • Representing Kingston Libraries professionally and exceeding customer and team expectations
  • Working at different library sites on a rotating schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and evenings
  • Overseeing staff and supporting them as 'Senior on Duty' when necessary
  • Promoting and facilitating programs that enhance literacy and digital literacy
  • Providing guidance to library users on resources, facilities, and technologies
  • Performing administrative tasks to ensure efficient library operations
  • Note: This is a casual role with flexible working hours across Kingston's libraries

Desired Qualifications

To be a successful candidate, you should have:

  • Demonstrated values aligned with City of Kingston's core principles
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in library and information services
  • Strong customer service skills, preferably in a library setting
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team environment
  • Knowledge of digital literacy initiatives
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies in library settings
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Flexibility to work at various Kingston library locations as per the roster
