ABOUT THE ROLE:

With the recent local and world markets shift toward zero emission vehicles and benefitting from Volgren's strong focus on the design and development of innovative new bus solutions, we are looking to increase our workforce at this exciting time with talented individuals contributing to the overall success of our company.

We are looking to fill multiple Skilled Boilermaker Assembler Welder role within our Dandenong facility. In this hands-on position, you will have a strong drive and motivation to succeed and be able to work in a safety conscious environment.

Positions enjoy working a 9-day fortnight. This will be a permanent full-time opportunity and paid as per our Enterprise Agreement.

POSITION SUMMARY

To be responsible for assemble, install, maintain, and repair boilers in support of Volgren's strong focus of the design and development of innovative new bus solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Constructing framework sections in metal and other materials using shaping machines and cutting and welding equipment
  • Cutting and shaping panels of sheet metal, aluminium and reinforced plastic and attaching to frameworks using hand and power tools
  • Modifying assembly line vehicles to special requirements
  • Preparing new vehicle trim work according to drawings and sketches, and removing old coverings and fittings from vehicles and taking new measurements
  • Selecting and cutting pieces of fabric, vinyl and leather and sewing pieces together using heavy-duty sewing machines
  • Installing internal trim in vehicles such as lining, floor coverings and armrests
  • Attaching door trims, rubber seals, locks and handles
  • Studying blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine job requirements
  • Cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines
  • Shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering.
  • Aligning parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments
  • Joining metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting
  • Examining welds for width of bead, penetration, and precision
  • Cleaning and smoothing welds by filing, chiselling, and grinding
  • Construct and repair aluminium according to specifications, using hand tools power tools
  • Fit and assemble components, using hand tools portable power tools, drill riveter and welding
  • Install electrical wiring for lights, taillights, brake lights, and other equipment accordingly to specified procedures
  • Read and interpret drawings

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate III or IV in Engineering (Fabrication) or equivalent.

WORK/TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in a similar field/ industry.
  • Reliable, available for work Monday to Friday and punctual.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • A great attitude to work and helping others.
  • Must be able to read drawings and use hand tools.
  • Manufacturing or related industry experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, time management skills with ability to meet deadlines and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaborate with teams.
  • Strong attention to detail, motivated, punctual, and prompt to act on support request

OTHER LICENSES/CHECKS/LANGUAGES/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency in English
  • Australian car driver license, MR driver license is a bonus

This position also requires the applicant to undertake a pre-employment medical which includes a drug and alcohol analysis, musculoskeletal evaluation and hearing test
