Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Australian Electoral Commission Full time

Agency Purpose

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

The AEC's values and commitments
The AEC values and commitments are an essential component of our operating environment and frame how AEC staff work. The AEC's focus is on electoral integrity through the values of quality, agility and professionalism.

The Team
The AEC has sites throughout Queensland and Northern Territory supporting 32 federal electorates.

You will join a high performing team that facilitates the readiness of the agency and proper conduct of the election, upholding the Electoral Integrity Framework.

You will be based in our Queensland State Office in Brisbane and support a diverse and geographically dispersed network, working closely with National Office and the other States and Territories.

Our leaders are committed to learning and self-development, and responsible for building the technical capability and fostering the career development of their employees.

They value collaboration and working together to ensure delivery of seamless electoral services.

When a federal election is announced, staffing rapidly expands to deliver this significant logístical event and is supplemented by temporary employees as required and is managed from the Queensland State Office.

Managing high risk and large-scale projects with increased pressure, media, public scrutiny, short timeframes, and multiple logístical activities that are dependent on each other are some aspects of a Federal Election.

The Opportunity

The Project Officer supports the work of the State Office in the administration and delivery of matters relating to corporate, governance and election readiness functions, including participating in section planning for short term tasks and work area planning for longer term initiatives.

The Project Officer contributes to the administration of specific projects relating to the conduct of an Electoral Event.

The role is responsible for undertaking work that is moderately complex in nature, under general direction, utilising functional expertise to support the delivery of corporate, compliance and governance functions, election events and project outcomes.

This position is an agile position and during the election cycle will be required to contribute to the delivery of different projects across the State Office as agency priorities necessitate and as directed by management.

To excel you'll have:

  • A demonstrated ability to work autonomously and a strong commitment to working harmoniously within a team to achieve positive results and support the AEC's strategic direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide administrative support, accurately record project progression and complete tasks within strict timeframes.
  • Research and analysis skills, with the ability to report on findings and contribute new ideas.
  • An ability to remain positive and respond to increased levels of pressure in a calm manner, while achieving goals within tight timeframes and responding to competing and changing priorities.
  • A demonstrated ability to maintain key internal and external relationships, including liaising with stakeholders on project or operational issues, and responding to stakeholder needs and expectations.

Desirable:

  • Driver's licence.

Eligibility

  • AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
  • Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
  • Applicants are required to consent to, undergo, obtain and maintain a character clearance.
