CommBank's Regulatory and Control Operations Team (RACO) are looking for a Manager to lead the Payment Screening Operations function. RACO are accountable for leading a complex and diverse shared service for Financial Crime Operations across CommBank.


Spanning multiple Business Units, multiple global locations and multiple financial crime disciplines such as Anti-money laundering/Transaction Monitoring, Payments Sanctions Screening, Customer Sanctions Screening, Pep Screening, Enhanced Customer Due Diligence of High Risk customers, on-boarding, on-going due diligence and maintenance and Law Enforcement Agency Notices.


RACO is a team of dedicated professionals and we collaborate closely with financial crime compliance and Business Aligned Risk teams across the group.

It is a scale, growing operation that has extensive Transformation plans and focus within the organisation. Our external stakeholders are DFAT, OFAC and other international regulators. We work together to detect, deter and disrupt financial crime.

Do work that matters


You will support the Payments and Sanctions Operations function by providing oversight in a highly regulated and fast paced environment to enable the group to effectively and efficiently manage its financial crime risks in relation to the Groups High Risk Customers.


You will manage a team of 8-12 direct reports and will manage the Sanctions team regulatory obligations along with the daily operations management of the Payment Screening Team which includes monthly coaching sessions and career performance & development conversations.


You will help drive a continuous improvement program and mindset and will lead by example to optimise the performance of yourself and your team around you.

You will help shape and operationalise the implementation of our Standard Operating Procedures.

You will;

  • You will be responsible for driving and overseeing the day to day management and oversight of volumes, rosters, systems and workflow to ensure our overall service offering is consistently achieved.
  • You will drive a high standard of the teams capability uplift relating directly to Sanctions processes
  • You will execute control assurance testing and play a key role in preparing line 3 AUDIT requests and closure packs
  • Be responsible for reviewing all quality issues/rework which arises, effectively drawing out thematic and building spotlight sessions and actions plans to improve results and plans documented to be within tolerance levels
  • You may at times be required to work weekends and or public holidays, advance notice will be given as directed by your direct manager

  • Demonstrated experience in Sanctions and financial crime compliance or financial crime operations within banking and/or financial services.
  • Ability to lead and take your team on a transformation journey while providing direction to ensure that strategic objectives are met.

  • Subject matter expertise across Financial Crime operations.
  • The ability to manage multiple and complex stakeholders with excellent communication skills.
