Warringtonfire Australia has an opportunity for a Lab handyperson to join our growing team.

We are seeking persons with carpentry, fitting, or handyman experience to join our Fire Testing Laboratory in Melbourne, to construct various test specimens and assist in the operation of the testing process.

Responsibilities:

  • Construction of various test specimens involving timber and steel framing, plasterboard, blockwork, concrete as well as preparing service installations such as pipes and cables
  • Following drawings and other instructions to construct test specimens in accordance with client requirements
  • Prepare test specimens, furnaces and other auxiliary equipment for the testing process. This may include instrumentation, calibration and equipment set up
  • Use initiative to find solutions to potential construction challenges
  • Demolition and cleanup of specimen after testing
  • First line maintenance of both fixed and mobile plant equipment
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, flammable materials, fumes, or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, exposed to heat or cold and vibration

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Site experience within the construction sector and familiar with general construction methods
  • Experienced in the use of hand and power tools
  • The role is physically demanding, the applicant must be physically fit, able to perform manual tasks and regularly move and lift 20kg loads and must be able to work in an environment where there is fire and smoke. Due to the nature of the work, the applicant may be required to undergo illicit drug and alcohol screening
  • Able to read, interpret and follow construction drawings
Well-developed communication skills and basic computer literacy with exposure to Word and Excel and excellent problem-solving skills

  • Forklift licence and EWPA Ticket will be favourably considered
  • A Cert III in construction will be favourably considered
