NumberWorks'nWords Balwyn is seeking English tutors and maths tutors.

NumberWorks'nWords Balwyn is not your average after-school tuition centre We believe that enjoyment is essential to learning. We cultivate a fun, vibrant atmosphere, celebrating our students' successes with positive feedback, certificates, games and rewards.

Our tutors really enjoy working here because:

  • It's highly rewarding helping their students gain confidence and achieve success
  • They get to have fun while they work


You will make a positive difference to children's lives by helping up to four students per lesson to achieve their individual learning goals in maths or English.

Our classes run during school terms (with occasional holiday courses also offered).

In school terms, we operate onsite in our Balwyn North centre from 3:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Mondays to Thursdays, and between 8:45 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays.


You will be seeking a long-term casual position (at least 1 year), working 2 or 3 shifts per week (shifts are 2 or 3 hours long).

Our students book in for the same day and time each week on a term-by-term basis.

Therefore, our tutors are offered the benefit of a consistent roster, allowing them to work the same 2 or 3 shifts each week for the term.


The position is ideally suited to university students in their first or second year, as the hours tend to work well around your study schedule.

Tutors are paid under the Miscellaneous Award (MA

Selection criteria

You will have:

  • A genuine desire to improve children's lives
  • A friendly, engaging personality
  • The ability to relate with enthusiasm and empathy to children from Prep to Year 10
  • Excellent academic results in maths, English or related disciplines
  • Initiative and conscientiousness
  • Availability to work 2 or 3 shifts per week for 1 year minimum
