The Opportunity

Taking charge of a dedicated curatorial team, the Senior Curator will lead the delivery of MUMA's upcoming exhibitions in 2024/5 and contribute to shaping the 2026 artistic program. The Senior Curator will actively participate in MUMA's educational initiatives, public programs, commissioning, publishing, and reporting.

An extensive understanding of Australian art history and practice, with a focus on First Nations art and culture, artists, institutions, curatorial theory and practice, as well as a broad knowledge of international contemporary art are vital for success in this role.

About MUMA

MUMA stands as one of Australia's premier contemporary art museums, renowned for its influential artistic endeavors. Founded in 1975, MUMA's vibrant program includes collecting, commissioning, exhibitions, and publishing, dedicated to bridging art, audiences, and ideas.

MUMA oversees the Monash University Collection, which houses over 2,600 artworks. With almost half of the Collection on public display across Monash's Victorian campuses or loaned to various national and international museums and galleries, it is a highly accessible collection of post-1960s Australian art, established alongside the University in 1961.

The Museum's exhibitions, commissions, and collection initiatives are complemented by robust education, engagement, and publishing programs, facilitating meaningful exchanges with diverse audiences, artists, and partners locally, nationally, and globally—both in-person and through digital resources and publications.
