SC 1 A demonstrated interest in working with young people and an ability to relate to young people in a positive, respectful and supportive manner, upholding the values of pride, respect and responsibility.

SC 2 Demonstrated high level communication skills with a range of individuals and well-developed emotional intelligence.

SC 3 Knowledge of DET policies and guidelines in relation to Inclusion and an ability to contribute to their implementation.

SC 4 Experience in Education Support for Additional Needs students and/or First Nations students, or Completion of Certificate IV in Education Support (or similar) would be an advantage.

SC 5 ICT experience and skill in using Compass, Google Suite, MS Office, iPad's etc.

SC 6 Demonstrated capacity to support Koori students, promote belonging, confidence and cultural pride.

The Inclusion Aide position exists to provide educational support to students who are funded under Tier 2 and 3 of the Disability Inclusion funding model and at times other students identified by the School leadership in line with the Individual Education Plans of those students.

Integration aides work as part of a team under the direction of the Inclusion Learning Specialist and the Inclusion Admin Coordinator, and the Business Manager.

The Koori Engagement aspect of the role involves providing similar support for Koori students, working proactively to support a sense of belonging and cultural pride.


Position Purpose


The position focuses on supporting students with additional learning needs and our Koori students as directed by the classroom teacher, with the support of the Inclusion Admin Coordinator.

Integration Aides follow strategies outlined in the students' Individual Education Plan and assist students in class to engage in a broad range of learning activities.

The Koori Engagement aspect of the role is intended to focus on providing similar support for our First Nations students and also help facilitate programs, incursions and excursions.

The role requires experience working with students in an education setting and qualifications in education support are highly desirable. Student teachers are also encouraged to apply.

Experience and knowledge of how to support Indigenous students in school settings is also an advantage as a part of this role is the support of our Koori students.


Attendance requirement for this position is 30 hrs per week (6.08 hrs per day over 5 days) and is 48/52 in line with normal school terms.


Responsibilities:

  • Help support our First Nations students by facilitating program focused on cultural pride, belonging, confidence and leadership capacity
  • Possess a strong understanding of the types of physical, intellectual and behavioural learning difficulties that exist in students.
  • Assisting students on an individual or group basis.
  • Assisting with the communication between students, teachers and parents. Particularly in relation to the student's progress and learning methods.
  • Promote a safe and supportive school environment in particular provide basic physical and emotional care of students.
  • Providing students with clear instruction.
  • Ensure confidentiality of records are maintained.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during recess/lunchtime, at camps, on excursions, in sporting activities, therapy activities, life skills
  • Provide basic physical and emotional care for students with a particular focus on our Koori students
  • Participate in team meetings to develop and implement behavioural management strategies.
  • Under the direction of the class teacher participate in the monitoring and evaluation of student progress within individual learning programs
  • Assisting teaching staff in class
  • Assist with the communication between students and teachers, particularly clarification of instructions/other adaptations required to support the student in his/her learning
  • To assist with ensuring occupational health and safety regulations are met.
  • To complete training in integration, support for Koori students and any other relevant professional development training.
  • Complete Performance and Development reviews, including receiving and giving feedback to
  • Take an active and positive role in supporting professional learning relating to the role
  • To undertake other duties and responsibilities within the dimensions of work level as requested by the principal or business manager.


The position reports to the Disability Inclusion Coordinator and the Business Manager in terms of supporting our additional needs students, and the Assistant Principal of Teaching and Learning in terms of supporting our First Nations students.
