Production Lead

Established in 1977, KING an iconic Australian furniture designer, manufacturer and retailer that prides itself on design, innovation and comfort.

Family owned and operated; KING is now a global business with Showrooms in 7 countries. Our global operations are managed out of our Turrella Office located in Sydney's South.

The role of the Production Lead is to coordinate, support and delegate work tasks across the production team and ensure all work is completed efficiently and to a high-quality standard. At KING we own our products from inception to delivery, and this role plays an important part in the production processes and supply chain.

The ideal candidate will have the drive and passion to lead by example to deliver quality results along with the enthusiasm to be working with a well-established small team, to train and mentor and able to effectively communicate across all levels of the business.

Key Deliverables of the Role

  • Production Co-ordination: Lead with best practice, maintains the schedule of production including amendments of orders to ensure on-time delivery to despatch, including managing cost effectiveness
  • Machines: materials and working environment: Maintains equipment and looks for ways to improve efficiencies to work on optimisation of operations. (quality, waste and output)
  • Quality: Ensuring the successful completion of assignments or tasks to high quality standards including resolving quality issues prior to despatch
  • Leadership: Engage, train, lead and motivate direct reports, review, and assess performance to build their technical capability
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively with key KING team members to effectively communicate work in progress and actions
  • Safety: Initiate and drive a safe workplace ensuring you and your team follow safety policies and regulations to drive a safety-first culture
  • Resources: Schedule the correct manning levels, source new suppliers, order resources and tools to make available for your team to meet production targets
  • Inventory: Managing stock take levels and goods receipting

Your responsibilities will be to oversee and be hands on where required include:

  • Sewing room, including cutting and sewing of furniture covers (Leather and Fabric), including manual cutting and automated single layer fabric cutters
  • Covering and assembly of new furniture and repairs and recovering of customer furniture
  • Minor fabrication works including welding (Steel) and cutting/gluing of foam

About You

You are a confident and highly motivated with previous experience in a similar role who has outstanding communication and time management skills. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in co-ordinating a production team and knowledge to understand an end-to-end product development life cycle.

  • Experience leading a small production team, including mentoring, coaching and development
  • A 'Can Do' attitude with a positive outlook
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail with impeccable planning skills
  • 2-3 years previous experience in a similar production management role
  • Ability to maintain relationships with internal stakeholders/suppliers with a proactive and energetic nature.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and self-manage time effectively.
  • The ability to make cost effective decisions to work towards maintaining a budget/labour/waste
  • An understanding and appreciation of furniture design and or premium products (not essential)
  • Previous supplier management experience
