The AEC values and commitments are an essential component of our operating environment and frame how AEC staff work. The AEC's focus is on electoral integrity through the values of quality, agility and professionalism.

The Team

The Redistributions Secretariat is responsible for ensuring redistributions of federal electoral divisions meet the requirements of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 (Electoral Act) while also being conducted in a manner easily understandable to members of the public.

This also requires working closely with all areas of the AEC and several external suppliers.

Team members will be required to travel interstate at several points during a federal redistribution. In some instances, this will include travel over weekends or outside bandwidth hours. Some weekend work and work outside bandwidth hours will be required during a redistribution process.

Every redistribution of electoral divisions is different.

You'll have the opportunity to consider how each aspect of a redistribution has worked and how it can be improved for the future.

There may also be the opportunity to work on federal electoral events.

As a member of the Redistribution Secretariat, you'll assist the National Redistributions Manager in the day-to-day management of redistributions of federal electoral divisions, provide support and advice for federal redistributions of specific states or territories and across the course of a redistribution will be involved in the following: legislative interpretation, research and data analysis, provision of secretariat services, liaison with internal and external stakeholders, policy development, evaluation, procurement, report writing, and development of alternative boundaries using geospatial software.
