Our client has the world's largest pre-production copper project and is looking for a Principal Metallurgist for their operations in Indonesia.
This role will see you reporting directly to the Executive GM and working closely with the external consultants, laboratories, finance, project management and geoscience team.
You will be responsible for the overall development, design, implementation, and execution of the projects metallurgical and processing projects.The Role
- Lead, direct, manage and support all aspects of laboratory testwork campaigns and roadmaps covering flotation, leaching, solvent extraction and separation processes for the Project being porphyry copper, gold.
- Manage the overall design of process flowsheets, plant layouts, material handling systems, manpower requirements, equipment procurement and material utilization.
- Develop and manage metallurgical processes that maximize project economics.
- Improve project specific testwork and flowsheet to promote capital (CAPEX) and operations (OPEX) reductions to achieve a high level of operating efficiency.
- Problem solve challenging mineralogical aspects of the deposit to maximise Cu and Au recovery
- Evaluate current and potential processing methods.
- Manage metallurgical and chemical engineering processing activities working with the laboratory's team and external processing consultants. Keep up to date and provide monthly organisation feedback on testwork results.
- Contribute toward tender scope specifications, commercial work, project management execution and delivery during the construction phase.
- Create and distribute weekly/monthly metallurgical and engineering reports.
- Work with crossfunctional teams and coach, mentor and supervise and lead direct reports.
- Actively works to ensure all team members are delivering outcomes that have a positive impact on the performance of the operation.
- Actively participate and contribute to the development of whole deposit geometallurgy models, including involvement in early stage geomet sampling campaigns.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor's Degree in metallurgical or chemical engineering
- A proven history of metallurgical experience, testwork, mineral processing, leaching, solvent extraction, carboninleach (CIL) is essential.
- Experience in metallurgical extraction of refractory orebodies (Albion) preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering process design, conceptual, scoping and feasibility studies
- A demonstrable understanding of project management, financial budgeting and project economics
