We are seeking an Experienced Picture Framer for work in Artarmon North Shore Sydney for an immediate start.
AGE IS NO BARRIER.

THE ROLE

  • 5 days a week. Competent in all aspects of picture framing.
  • Custom Framing: You will work closely with customers to design and create custom frames that complement the artwork and suit the customer's preferences and decor. They help customers choose the right materials, colors, and styles for the frame.
  • Material Selection: You will work with a variety of framing materials, including wood, metal, acrylic, and composite materials. They must have a good understanding of the properties and characteristics of different materials to recommend the best options for specific artworks.
  • Cutting and Assembling: You will measure the artwork precisely and cut the framing materials accordingly. They then assemble the frame, ensuring it fits the artwork securely and accurately.
  • Matting and Mounting: In some cases, you may add mats (also known as matboards) to provide extra space between the artwork and the glass. Mats not only enhance the presentation but also serve as a protective barrier to prevent the artwork from sticking to the glass.
  • Conservation and Preservation: For valuable or delicate artwork, you may use conservation techniques and materials to ensure the artwork's longterm preservation, protecting it from fading, acid damage, and other potential threats.
  • Glass or Glazing: Picture framers often choose the appropriate type of glazing, cutting and covering the artwork, such as regular glass, acrylic, or UVresistant glass, which protects the artwork from harmful UV rays.
  • Mounting Hardware: Framers install the necessary hardware (hangers, wires, or hooks) on the frame to make it ready for hanging.
  • Quality Control: You will inspect the finished frame to ensure it meets the desired standards of quality and craftsmanship before delivering it to the customer.
  • Repair and Restoration: You can also offer services for repairing and restoring damaged or old frames.

KEY SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Living in Australia (the position is on the North Shore of Sydney)
  • Competent in all aspects of picture framing:
  • Match Cutting
  • Assembly
  • Canvas Stretching
  • Use of mitre saws
  • Reliable
