The Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) helps protect Australia's multi-billion dollar livestock and aquaculture industries, and the general public, from emerging infectious disease threats.
As a Biocontainment Technician at the ACDP, you will undertake on-site decontamination, as well as testing and maintenance of containment systems.
As part of a close-knit team within the Biorisk Management Group, this will include routine testing of HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters, room pressure testing, NATA-accredited testing of biological safety cabinets and fume cupboards, gaseous and chemical decontamination of rooms, equipment, and plant, and autoclave validation.
You will also facilitate the movement of materials across microbiological containment barriers.
For success in this role, you will draw on your interpersonal and communication skills, mechanical aptitude, and your strong commitment to health and safety.
You will also be able follow written instructions, accurately record test results, and prepare documents such as reports and new test procedures.
In this role you will:
- Maintain laboratory containment systems including HEPA filters and biological safety cabinets.
- Record test results on reports and maintain records as part of a quality assurance system.
- Carry out routine room decontaminations and air leakage tests within the laboratory.
- Complete ACDP's training program for primary containment level 4 users including the use of a fully encapsulated suit for room decontamination.
- Facilitate the movement of goods across containment barriers.
- Carry out plant and equipment decontaminations and assist in spill cleanups.
- Autoclave validation, filter integrity testing and drain decontamination.
- Schedule work to meet future demand, maintain clear communication and monitor client satisfaction.
- Oversee the activities of less experienced staff and provide onthejob training as required.

AU$68k - AU$86k per annum, plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
- Trades Certificate, Assoc Diploma or Diploma in Mechanical or Biological disciplines and/or equivalent experience utilising skills which are transferable to this role.
- Mechanical aptitude including the ability to use tools and test equipment to carry out tests.
- Previous experience and the ability to work effectively and in a collaborative manner as a member of a team.
- The ability to follow written instructions, accurately record test results when carrying out testing, and prepare documents such as reports and new test procedures.
- Previous experience and familiarity with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- The ability to effectively manage your time and plan tasks and absences, while ensuring that the team plan is met.
