As our Sustainable Resource Recovery Education Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Driving the achievement of the City of Melville sustainable resource recovery goals through engaging and inspiring our community. You'll be at the forefront of developing and delivering educational initiatives and projects that ignite change.
  • Offering expert advice to both internal and external stakeholders on waste planning, education, services, methods, principles, and resources, shaping the city's sustainable future.
  • Unleashing your creativity by promoting and implementing innovative waste and circular economy services to our residents, making a tangible impact on their lives.
  • Being the goto resource for residents, commercial customers, and our Customer Relation Team, providing prompt and informative responses to their waste and resource recovery inquiries.
  • Collaborating with the Environment, Sustainability, and Marketing & Communications team to identify, develop, and execute compelling marketing and communication strategies for resource recovery and waste education programs.
  • Taking the lead in managing the content of our Waste and Recycling website pages, monthly social media calendar, and enewsletter articles to keep the community informed and engaged.

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualification in environmental science, education or equivalent, or other relevant degree-level qualification, and/or significant relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering a range of educational programs, tools, and services to the community.
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking community research and evaluation of stakeholder knowledge, attitude, and perceptions of waste management and utilise the results in the review and planning for future waste education and project strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster and develop effective internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to take the initiative to solve unusual problems using research, analysis, and innovation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, set work priorities, plan, and organise workload to deliver on specific and set objectives, using resources available to meet stakeholder demands.
  • Excellent customer service skills including written, telephone and personal communication.
  • Qualification in project management will be highly regarded.
  • Sound computing knowledge and skills in Word and spreadsheet programs, preferably MS suite and Adobe suite.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills, with ability to prioritise workload.
