The Department of Neurology and Stroke at Calvary Health Care Bruce is seeking a Neurology Fellow who is focused on the delivery of high quality, effective, patient-centric care.
The neurology fellow will contribute to the neurology and stroke service by undertaking care of both inpatients and outpatients under the supervision of the consultant neurologists in the department.
Participation in neurology clinics including EEG and NCS will be possible upon discussion and agreement with the head of department.
It is expected that the fellow will participate in 2-3 outpatient clinics per week and in addition, the fellow will contribute to the out-of-hours, on-call roster for neurology and stroke.
These on-call duties include assessment and management of acute stroke patients who may require acute therapy (thrombolysis and assess suitability for endovascular clot retrieval) and undertaking ward rounds on weekends, suitable support by the on-call consultant will be provided.
The fellow will gain experience in management of stroke and, in particular, assessment and selection of patients for acute therapy and endovascular clot retrieval.
The Fellow will obtain exposure and training in advanced imaging for acute stroke and will become confident in the interpretation of multimodal CT (CTA and CTP) and MRI.
Key ResponsibilitiesDaily ward rounds
Participation in the on-call neurology stroke including stroke roster
Diagnosis and management of acute stroke patients using multimodal imaging, assessing eligibility for IV thrombolysis and/or endovascular clot retrieval
2-3 weekly outpatient clinics
Teaching of medical students, junior medical staff, Basic Physician Trainees and nursing/allied health staff, as required. Academic title with the ANU is optional.
What you bring
COVID-19 vaccination is a mandatory requirement unless assessed exempt
Fully registered medical practitioner with AHPRA and experience in the practice of neurology, ideally with at least one year of accredited advanced training already completed.
High level communication and interpersonal skills with a strong commitment to teaching at all levels (including medical, nursing and allied health professional staff).
Demonstrated understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience.
