In the Middle Years Literacy & Numeracy Support initiative (MYLNS) and/or Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) programme;

This position will include a teaching allotment as vacancies in the teaching programme arise and should the Department of Education & Training intervention programs change.

Tutor Learning Initiative

The Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) is designed to support students whose learning has been disrupted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The initiative is consistent with Australian and international evidence that demonstrates effective learning intervention is through tutoring or small group learning support.

Schools put the initiative in place based on the needs of their students and the school. The engagement of tutors, student support, and hours of work vary depending on these needs.

The targeted teaching tutors provide to their students, involves students taking part in small group learning in a regular classroom setting or outside of a regular class.

At Kurunjang Secondary College, the tutor will work with students from Year 7 -12 in English and Mathematics, who have been identified through our testing that they have not achieved a year's growth during the Covid-19 remote learning years and hence been identified to be part of the TLI program.

The TLI teacher will:
- work closely with the child's classroom teacher in identifying underdeveloped skills
- develop and teach lessons and programs to improve identified skills both within the classroom and/or breakout settings
- use feedback to identify that a particular skill has been learned and then returned to class

Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Support Initiative

The Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Support (MYLNS) Initiative provides intensive teaching support to government secondary school students who are at risk of finishing school without the literacy and numeracy skills they need for future work and study.

This initiative seeks to support and build on the work that schools are already doing to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students, by providing additional teaching support to prioritised students as part of a whole-school approach.

MYLNS Teachers have the flexibility to support all prioritised students through:

  • in class co-teaching, such as:
- teaching a segment of the lesson
- providing in-class support for prioritised students
- small group work
- individual student support

Support for students can include:
- establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents and other teaching staff to focus on student learning, wellbeing and engagement
- identifying the education requirements of students with complex learning needs
- monitoring and analysing student data to inform teaching for improved student learning
- differentiating teaching practice to meet the students at their point of need
- implementing high impact teaching strategies (HITS) which enable prioritised students to achieve their full potential
- tracking and monitoring student progress
- providing student learning outcomes data to classroom teachers to support differentiation and inform the reporting cycle, as a
