Ecological Sciences Group has an opportunity for a
Zoologist to join our Fauna team in Melbourne to provide expertise in the delivery of a range of exciting and high-profile projects in south-eastern Australia.


Our team works on ecology focussed and multidisciplinary projects in grassland, wetland, forest and woodland communities, from the Mallee to alpine areas, in partnership with GHD's clients, land managers and state government bodies.


You will maximise your specialist skills, knowledge and experience in a position that will see you delivering a broad range of conservation, impact assessment and monitoring projects.

This diverse and exciting position will see you involved in:

  • Supporting a range of ecology focussed and multidisciplinary projects
  • Fieldbased fauna surveys & trapping, including habitat assessments, pitfall, Elliot and funnel trapping, spotlighting, remote sensing and camera surveys
  • Ecological monitoring, involving the design and implementation of monitoring programs, surveys for threatened species, running longterm monitoring projects, assessing the benefits of environmental watering projects etc
  • Impact assessments for major projects of state significance, e.g., Environment Effects Statements
  • Preparation of proposals and technical reports

What would you bring to the team?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science with a Zoology, Ecology or Environmental Science major
  • 25 years of experience conducting fauna surveys in southeast Australia
  • Strong ability to develop and build upon client relationships from experience in a similar consulting role
  • Strong fauna identification skills
  • Willingness to work flexibly and independently, particularly when undertaking surveys and traveling to remote locations
  • Understanding of national and state environmental legislation and policy
  • Strong writing skills, including experience in the preparation of reports for clients and or regulators
  • Ability and experience in managing small to medium sized projects
