HOPE has been a community service in Western Australia for over a century, providing much needed support to people affected by alcohol and other drugs, mental ill-health, youth justice issues and socioeconomic disadvantage.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Prevention Coordinator to join the Goldfields Community Alcohol and other Drugs (GCADS) team The position is full time working Monday to Friday.

About the Opportunity

Under the guidance of the WA Mental Health Commission and the Goldfields Regional Manager of Hope Community Services, the Suicide Prevention Coordinator is responsible for developing, delivering and evaluating the Goldfields Suicide Prevention Plan. The Suicide Prevention Coordinator collaborates with regional and local networks to ensure that the actions, key performance indicators and outcomes of the Goldfields Suicide Prevention Plan are achieved.

Requirements of the Role:

  • Provide leadership and support to Hope's AOD Prevention Officer and headspace Community Engagement Worker
  • Ensure that local and regional suicide prevention initiatives are delivered in line with the WA State Suicide Prevention Strategy
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate local and regional Suicide Prevention Action Plans
  • Support the development, collaboration, and implementation of local Community Wellbeing Plans
  • Maintain effective records of suicide prevention initiatives for timely and accurate reporting to stakeholders and funding bodies
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with government and non-government service providers and community groups to identify local needs and priorities
  • Regularly organise and/or chair Regional Suicide Prevention Network/Advisory Group meetings
  • Facilitate public education campaigns, initiatives and events to increase awareness, generate dialogue, encourage help-seeking behaviour, build connections and inspire action
  • Coordinate training for professionals, para-professionals, health workers, frontline service providers and community groups
  • Regularly attend and participate in Suicide Prevention Coordinator VC meetings with the WA Mental Health Commission (MHC)
  • Identify and provide immediate notification of emerging issues or trends to the MHC.
  • Research and prepare submissions in relation to policy & procedure documents, discussion papers and proposals relating to suicide prevention programs and strategies

About you:

  • Commitment to upholding HOPE's vision, mission and values
  • Tertiary degree qualification in health promotion, psychology, social services or approved equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with government, non-government, industry and community stakeholders
  • Experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and/or demonstrated ability to work in a culturally secure way
  • Strong organisational and project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment
  • Experience in managing a budget and reporting against Key Performance Indicators
  • High level of interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of administrative and computer skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Goldfields Region

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of evidence-based approaches to suicide prevention
  • Experience working within a mental health or community service organisation
  • Ability to develop and/or deliver training to professionals and community groups

Appointments will be subject to Australian residency/visa, satisfactory National Police check (within 3 months), Working With Children card, Current C or A class driver's license, First Aid Certificate, and suitable work referees.
