This role is responsible for teaching Creative Arts and/or Performing Arts and leads the members of the faculty to develop the program within the framework of Melbourne Grammar School.

Melbourne Grammar School is one of Australia's leading independent schools with an inclusive, community-focused culture. We value professionalism and a commitment to excellence in every role.

The Faculty of Creative and Performing Arts is one of seven faculties within the School.

The Head of Creative and Performing Arts has a school - wide role of oversight of the Creative and Performing Arts at both Grimwade House and Wadhurst.

However, the role is based within the Senior School and the teaching load that attaches to the position is a secondary school teaching load.

The role has a direct responsibility for the teaching and learning within the Creative and Performing Arts faculty within the Senior School.


The Faculty of Creative and Performing Arts is comprised of the Departments of Visual Art and Visual Communication and Design, Drama, Media and Music.

This position is a fixed term appointment for five years.

You will

  • Lead discussions about Creative/Performing Arts and the teaching of Arts within the Faculty
  • Manage Creative and Performing Arts Faculty staff, including orientation, professional development and appraisal.
  • Liaise with Creative and Performing Arts Leaders at Wadhurst and Grimwade House to ensure that the teaching and learning programme is cohesive for students
  • Report to the Head of Curriculum on strategic and operational initiatives for the Creative and Performing Arts Faculty
  • Collaboratively plan courses, activities, excursions, resources, assessment and other relevant matters within the Faculty.
  • Communication with staff, students and parents on issues relating to the faculty.

  • Appropriate qualifications in education
  • VIT registration, or the ability to gain VIT registration, is essential
  • Demonstrated commitment to leading and developing a team with a focus on positive collaboration
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching and leading educational change
  • Commitment to ongoing professional learning and sharing knowledge within a collaborative environment
  • Proactive contributions to wider school programmes
