Our client is IGEA - the Interactive Games and Entertainment Association in Australia.

It is the peak industry association representing the voice of Australian and New Zealand companies in the computer and video games industry.

IGEA supports the business and public policy interests of the games industry, through advocacy, research and education programs. It works with many stakeholders including all levels of government, agencies, media and other trade associations.

IGEA is seeking a Sydney-based Policy Officer.

The successful applicant will primarily report to the Director of Public Policy and Government Relations, as part of the Policy Team.

For some tasks the Policy Officer may report to the Chief Operating Officer. This is a hybrid role, requiring some time every week to be spent in the IGEA office.

In this diverse and interesting role, you will:

  • Undertake a range of policy, advocacy, communications, media, research and other tasks.
  • Monitor the media and the political, policy, legal and regulatory landscape, keeping the team updated and suggesting courses of action.
  • Develop policy positions and advocacy strategies by researching issues and liaising with members and stakeholders.
  • Research and write submissions, policy statements and letters to government.
  • Organise meetings, roundtables, briefings and events, including with members or government.
  • Manage and draft communications to members and stakeholders, including policy briefings, organisational updates and member newsletters.
  • Draft policyrelated public communications including media releases, blog posts and social media posts.
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with members, stakeholders (including government and other industry groups), the media and organisational partners (eg. PR and GR firms)
  • Other activities to support the team as expected of all the staff of this small organisation.

Specific duties:

  • Supporting the Director with research and administrative matters related to policy work
  • Opportunities to lead the drafting of submissions, as required, for Australian states and territory regions, and NZ on various policy matters relevant to the video games industry
  • Providing support for our video games industry members to meet their compliance obligations on online safety and classification reforms
  • Providing regular activity updates to IGEA's members via our communications channels
  • Managing IGEA's Trust & Safety Hub

Relationships:


While this position reports to the Director of Public Policy and Government Relations, there will need to be a close and effective working relationship with the CEO, COO, IGEA managers, the IGEA board and our members.


Additional requirements:

  • Some interstate and overseas travel may be required
  • Hybrid office environment in Sydney
  • Interest in advancing the video games industry in Australia
  • The role would be ideal for someone who has recently graduated in either law, economics, business or related discipline, less than 3 years experience, and willingness to learn and a good attitude and soft skills necessary to learn on the job and be mentored into their role
