THE ROLE

The family worker role is designed to support young people aged 12-15 in the refuge to return home to family where it is safe to do so.

The role requires a skilled and qualified family worker to support young people and families address the causes of relationship breakdowns and communicate effectively to prevent further relationship breakdowns occurring in the future.

ESSENTIALS

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences/Community Welfare/Social Work or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in equivalent position
  • Creative and flexible approach to working with families to achieve restoration
  • Highly developed case management skills working with young people and families
  • Positive communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to maintain and model professional boundaries
  • Commitment to the rights and responsibilities of young people
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people who have suffered trauma and support them to develop skills
  • Experience in the provision of personcentred practice
  • Experience in employing strengthsbased practice and systems theory
  • Ability to provide evidence based practices and programs to families to prevent family breakdowns occurring in the future
  • Ability to assess and act appropriately on risks and strengths of young people and families
  • Comprehensively insured, sound and well maintained motor vehicle as transportation of young people in your vehicle may be required


The successful applicant will possess or willingness to obtain the following: NSW Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check, first aid & CPR certificate and undertake a pre-employment functional medical.
