This role leads a team of approximately 1,700 staff and will provide leadership and strategic direction for the integrated operation, management and performance of Queensland Rail's Regional business - a mix of travel, tourism and freight.

You will report directly to the CEO and will ensure that high service standards are upheld in the effective design, maintenance and administration of above and below rail services, all regional network infrastructure, maintenance and construction, integrated planning and projects, as well as the efficient and effective use of resources.


You will also oversee the management and operation of Regional Queensland's passenger service, crewing and customer service to ensure continuous provision of efficient, reliable and high-level service operation for commuters.

There is a strong emphasis and focus on the future of the business, and there are significant commercial opportunities in the freight and tourism spaces, particularly in the lead up to the Olympics.


This role will allow you to roll up your sleeves and make a significant impact, not only to the business but to Queensland.

With significant commitments for investment, you will use your strategic and commercial acumen to develop strategic plans for commissioning of new tracks and rolling stock, as well as prioritising projects for station upgrades.

Operational challenges for the role include ensuring on time delivery of the timetable across a vast geographical area as well as maximising capability and capacity of staff.

This is a leadership role requiring 'hands on' execution. Your remit will be to inspire and lead an effective team to deliver on the strategy. You will be adaptable and embrace change where opportunity presents. We are seeking a strong people leader that is highly outcomes focused.

You will be an integral part of the Executive Leadership Team and will enjoy contributing to the broader business outside of your remit.

This role presents a real mix of operations, strategy and projects, ensuring that you will enjoy the variety that this role presents.

The right person will enjoy being connected across business and the market-facing aspects of this role. You will have a vision and articulate it clearly, both internally and externally. You will be adding value not only to the organisation, but to Queensland.
