The role
Under the supervision of the Epidemiology Manager, you will generate evidence to inform Queensland Health population health strategic priorities for chronic disease and preventive health by:

  • Conducting advanced epidemiological and statistical analysis using data from various sources
  • Support analysis and translation of results with health evidence from other sources (population health literature, key stakeholder feedback).
  • In a primarily digital environment, use scientific communication styles appropriate to a public audience to translate finding using text, graphics and interactive data dashboards.
The successful person
You will have highly developed epidemiological experience and proficiency to:

  • Demonstrated high level ability in complex study design, epidemiological and statistical analysis, interpretation and translation of epidemiological data and literature into information that public health practitioners, policy makers, clinicians and the public can understand and use.
  • Provide specialist advice to senior managers and other stakeholders on epidemiology service needs using high level oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with a range of stakeholders.
  • Qualifications: To meet the competencies required for this position, it is highly desirable that applicants have a post graduate degree in epidemiology or biostatistics related to health, or equivalent. Under Schedule 1 of the Health Practitioner Enterprise Agreement this position is deemed to be of the discipline Epidemiologist.

The three primary function of Prevention Strategy-Epidemiology are to generate the Chief Health Officer report, to conduct the Queensland preventive health survey and to undertake evaluations and assess evidence to support health-related policies and programs.

This role will work across these three functions.
