Purpose

Application of structural geology expertise across various scales to comprehend the spatial location and geometry of resources, enhancing geological models used for exploration, resource estimation, orebody management, and geotechnical models for design and planning purposes.

About the Role

Main Functions:

  • Maintain oversight of structural geology application across BHP, providing expert support for technical advancements, process integration, geoscientists' skill enhancement, increased productivity, and informed business decisions.
  • Provide timely advice and support to enhance geological and geotechnical models for exploration, resource estimation, and mining activities.
  • Develop and implement structural geology training programs to enhance the skill set and confidence of BHP geoscientists in applying structural geology principles in their daily tasks.
  • Lead the ongoing advancement of structural geology application in exploration and resource assessment, covering data collection, interpretation, hardware/software guidance, and the utilization of integrated geoscience datasets.
  • Promote innovation and technology utilization to analyze and model structural geology and rock geometry at BHP, collaborating with the Technology Strategy and Innovation team as needed.
  • Foster cross-regional and commodity collaboration in structural geology practices and oversee relevant technical standards.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with external researchers, Resource Engineering Excellence, contractors, and consultants.
About You

  • Demonstrated experience in applied structural geology within the petroleum, mining, or exploration sectors, with significant field exposure.
  • Established networks with external researchers and consultants.
  • Globally recognized for your expertise.
  • Proficiency in integrating multiple geoscience datasets to determine structural architecture across various scales and applying this knowledge to geotechnical models.
  • Experience in conducting training programs on structural geology application.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with and influence key stakeholders.
  • Minimum Honours degree in Geoscience required, along with a relevant postgraduate degree.
