About the role
Permenant Part Time opportunity to contribute to the Speech Pathology Department and multidisciplinary teams at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH) to facilitate patient flow and earlier safe patient discharge by:

  • Providing therapy support to patients with swallowing and/or communication deficits delegated under the supervision of a speech pathologist. This includes direct intervention with individuals and their significant others as well as activities within a group setting.
  • Independent provision of clinical support tasks including development of patientrelated resources and management of equipment as delegated by the speech pathologist.
  • Completion of administrative clinical support tasks ensuring the efficient operation of the speech pathology service.
This role supports a weekend service and will be allocated either a Fri

  • Mon, Fri-Sat or Sun-Mon shift pattern (or as negotiated).
About you

  • Provision of individual and group activities as directed by the speech pathologist (including computer or devicebased therapy programs and communication/swallowing exercise programs), to inpatients with diverse medical conditions that have been identified for weekend and Monday discharge from hospital.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, speech pathologists, other hospital staff and work collaboratively as part of the healthcare team within the boundaries and scope of the role.
  • Initiate, plan, coordinate and evaluate in quality improvement activities regarding clinical assistant functions and participate in department activities as delegated.
  • Exercise clinical observations and judgment in the provision of patient care activities, within the hyper
- and acute hospital setting utilizing prioritization guidelines with support of the speech pathologist.

  • Provision of comprehensive education to patients and/or families as delegated by the speech pathologist with mínimal direct supervision.
